Lets Be Honest Survey

The Let’s Be Honest survey was conducted and analysed in March 2025 as early attitudinal research to inform Project Action. It captures honest experiences and opinions from parents, carers, family members and young people themselves, offering a clear picture of how mental health is currently being experienced, supported and talked about.

With over 230 respondents across multiple age groups, the survey highlights recurring themes around anxiety, depression and stress, alongside serious concerns about access to timely and effective support. Responses point to long waiting lists, inconsistent services and a system that often reacts only once a crisis has occurred, rather than offering early, preventative help.

Social media emerged as a major area of concern, particularly around unrealistic standards, online safety and anonymous bullying. At the same time, both young people and adults clearly identified what they feel would help: safe, judgement-free spaces, better mental health education, accessible support, opportunities for connection and a move towards normalising conversations about mental health.

The full report below brings these voices together through data, quotes and thematic analysis. It provides vital insight into the gaps that exist and the opportunities for meaningful change, grounded in the lived experiences of those most affected.
